Baby Loss & SCBU
During my twelve years in the NHS I saw parents who had experienced stillbirths or neonatal deaths; traumatic births; terminations for abnormalities, or whose babies were premature or had conditions or illnesses in the special care unit.
Parents often feel that there is pressure to move on from the loss of a baby and so therapy can provide a space to explore grief when it is harder to do this elsewhere. I have also worked with couples who are grieving differently and this can lead to misunderstandings which can put a strain on their relationship. Parents, who have had a stillbirth or neonatal death, struggle with their grief and anxiety through subsequent pregnancies and this can affect their bonding with future babies. I supported parents through subsequent pregnancies by helping them cope with the very natural anxieties they experienced.
I believe I can offer a calm, empathic presence when parents are in crisis. This is grounded in my extensive experience of working with parents who are struggling to cope with tragic events.
